Regular Verb – Dalam belajar bahasa Inggris atau bahasa apapun, kedudukan kata kerja penting dalam hal penggunaannya. Memahami dan menguasai kosakata bahasa inggris jenis verb akan membuat kita lebih mudah dalam menguasai bahasa Inggris.

Namun, sebagaimana kita ketahui belajar bahasa Inggris berbeda dengan bahasa Indonesia. Ada aturan-aturan yang harus diterapkan pada setiap pembentukan frasa atau kalimat. Dalam hal kata kerja pun menjadi demikian.

Terdapat perubahan kata kerja dalam bentuk Verb 1 2 3 dikenal dengan istilah regular verb dan irregular verb atau kata kerja beraturan dan kata kerja tidak beraturan.

Perubahan kata kerja bentuk 1 2 3 ini sangat erat kaitannya ketika seseorang belajar tenses dan belajar bagaimana menyusun sebuah kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk lampau, sekarang atau masa mendatang.

Pengertian Regular Verb

Regular verb atau kata kerja beraturan adalah  kata kerja yang berubah secara teratur karena tenses kalimatnya berubah.

Regular verb adalah kata kerja yang bentuk perubahan dari verb 1 ke verb 2 dan verb 3 nya bersifat sederhana dan mudah, karena kita hanya perlu menambahkan”ed” / “d” saja pada akhir katanya tergantung hurup akhir dari sebuah kata. (lihat bag aturan)

• Call   -> Called   -> Called        = Memanggil
• Offer -> Offered –> Oppered    = Menawarkan

Berbeda dengan Irregular Verb atau kata kerja tak beraturan. Perubahan verbnya tidak semudah regular verb. Siswa biasanya diwajibkan untuk menghapalkannya.

• Write -> Wrote -> Written = Menulis
• Give -> Gave – Given       = Memberikan

Aturan Penulisan Regular Verb

Sebelumnya telah dituliskan bahwasanya bentuk perubahan pada irregular verb dari verb 1 ke verb 2 dan 3 hanya dengan menambahkan ed/d saja. Namun ada hal- hal yang harus diperhatikan ketika menuliskannya. Diantaranya ;

a. Umumnya Tinggal Menambahkan -ed saja

• Call -> Called – Called = Memanggil

b. Jika Kata Berakhiran Huruf Vokal E, Tambahkan D saja

• Describe -> Described -> Described  = Menggambarkan

c. Jika Kata Berakhiran Huruf Y yang di Dahului Huruf Mati. Maka huruf y diganti menjadi I

• Try  -> Tried  -> Tried  = Mencoba

d. Jika Kata Berakhiran Huruf Y Namun Didahului Huruf Hidup, Y Tidak Berubah

• Enjoy -> Enjoyed -> Enjoyed = Menikmati
  

e. Jika Kata berakhiran huruf Konsonan yang didahului Huruf Vokal, maka huruf vokal
tersebut digandakan

• Rob -> Robbed – Robbed -> Merampok
   

f. Jika kata berakhiran huruf konsonan (L) yang didahului huruf vokal. maka L digandakan dan ditambah “ED”

• Cancel -> Cancelled -> Cancelled

g. Dan lain- lain
